5.1 from Optical out

Hi, I own a VBox Android TV Box 4144. I connected the optical out port to a 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS capable audio receiver. I was not able to configure the Vbox to stream a 5.1 channel signal that can be recognised and decoded by the receiver as 5.1, even when the Vbox TV tuner indicates a 5.1 stream is available, or when playing another source (a movie from Prime Video app for instance) where a 5.1 audio is listed. What is received and played by the receiver is only a PCM 48khz stereo signal.
Can you help sort this out? Is the Vbox capable at all to stream a 5.1 (Dolby Digital or DTS) signal from the optical port? Do I need to setup some kind of transcoding if the original 5.1 stream is in a different standard than DD?
Thank you
