EPG data for UK Freesat channels
EPG data for UK Freesat channels
Hi there
Can anyone help me get UK Freesat EPG data for the next seven days onto my VBox? Freesat just gives now and next data over the live stream which is next to useless. Anyone got an easy how-to-guide to add EPG data for freesat to the VBox with sources of data?
Cheers

Here is a free source of external data for UK Freesat (and Freeview) http://www.xmltv.co.uk/feeds
From a quick look at the data for the 7 day feed, it is quite limited e.g. no series support.
The other feeds up to and including 72 hours are better.
Note I have no idea where xmltv.co.uk get its data from.
The basic steps are below, but see section 7.3 Program Guide of the Full User Manual at http://www.vboxcomm.com/shop-support/download.html
Assumes VBox is running latest firmware (2.57)
1. Download the desired file to some storage which can be accessed by the VBox.
2. On the VBox via Web Browser go to Streaming>Program Guide and change Program Guide Source to "External XMLTV (Beta)" and click submit.
3 Tell VBox where to find the external XMLTV file is using either NETWORK (Wizard) or NETWORK / URL (Manual). Note make sure the path to the file and the filename do not contain any space characters, also use IP Address rather than a name (depending on the settings of the router on your network, it may not resolve name to IP Address for the local network).
4. click on Auto Match
I believe there are some limitations on what VBox can import from the external XMLTV file, but I could not find details, things like file size, tags supported, would be nice if VBox could publish this information.

Re: EPG data for UK Freesat channels
Hi Mike
Thanks for your help much appreciated.
Just one silly question as I am a bit new to all this. In step 1 you say download the file to storage than can be accessed by the box. So in the example of the xmktv feeds 7 day feed should I download the file http://www.xmltv.co.uk/feed/6582.xml to the storage rather than putting http://www.xmltv.co.uk/feed/6582 in the XMLTV Network / URL (manual) field? If the former how does it get updated to I have to regularly download it? Sorry for the beginner questions.
Cheers

Re: EPG data for UK Freesat channels
Hi Marcus,
You can do either. In your case, it is simpler just put it in XMLTV Network URL
I tend to download to storage, as it makes debug easier and limits load on www.xmltv.co.uk server when debugging.
Edit: I have two VBoxes, and other boxes, so I download only once, and then share across my boxes.

The limit for the xml files is 50 mb according to support. I haven't managed to get the uploads working so far despite knowing from support that the files should work.

hi
Go to www.xmltv.co.uk and then to XMLTV feeds, look what you need and 'Show URL' -> copy the url in your downloadmanager.MikeB wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:50 pmI tend to download to storage, as it makes debug easier and limits load on www.xmltv.co.uk server

Hi,
If you are using Windows 10, since Windows 10 September 2017 update, SMB1 is disabled.
As VBox files system for managing external files such as XML TV stored on NAS or a computer library works with SMB1, it is necessary to enable it.
We created a guide, explaining how to do it https://vboxcomm.com/images/pdfs/How-to ... ows-10.pdf
In addition, we created 2 more guides, explaining how to set a Schedules Direct EPG/an XMLTV EPG

Re: EPG data for UK Freesat channels
I tried the latest instructions for xmltv uk but I question whether anyone actually tried them but just amended previous instructions. The command is not valid. I have downloaded the xmlttv feed using the url and then saved it and that seems to work - so far. Tried the Schedules Direct feed using mc2xml which allows selecting the channels downloaded and then reducing file with SED. This produced a file less than 50 mb but unfortunately despite being a valid xml file having checked it would not upload and just crashed the box. Not impressed.
