Unicast or multicast

Post by UnuDePeNet » Wed Jun 14, 2017 5:07 am

I would like to use my VBox XTi 3452 with a Panasonic TV using unicast or multicast protocols (UDP or RTP)
Panasonic Viera models have DVB-to-IP (SAT>IP) with Unicast or Multicast.
Unfortunately I am using now seeing VBox as UPnP Media Server.
There is a plan to implement Unicast or Multicast to VBox firmware?

Hi @UnuDePeNet

The VBox XTi is streaming in Unicast while our professional line the XLV is streaming in Multicast
However unlike sat>IP that is streaming in a proprietary standard we use market standard protocols such as UPnP and m3u playlist
So that you will be able to use the VBox with most devices and players
Additionally unlike sat>ip which streams all the data to the player (multiple audio and video channels) and it is the player that needs to process the feed and ignore all the unnecessary data, in our technology the VBox process the feed and streams only the requires data, saving network bandwidth and allows for weaker devices to play the stream
We believe that our approach of stronger TV server and more standard compatibility is better than sat>ip's weaker server with dedicated software approach

Hi @admin,

Totally agreed with your approach about bandwidth and weak devices. But in a home gigabit LAN there is not a problem the bandwidth. The problem is to not buy a player for each smart TV unit. It is a nonsense.
It just a matter how your company intends to develop the product to be able and compatible with more devices and protocols.
That could add more value to product.
Nowadays, more and more such devices will appear on the market.
The race will be very tight in winning new customers.

Absolutely agree and we are working hard on growing our ecosystem with both VBox free live TV apps and growing our 3rd party supported apps
sat>ip is just another option on the market that is driven by Astra and it received somewhat success with German satellite but doesn't do that well elsewhere, we where part of sat>ip at its beginning helping Astra to developed it but once realized the direction that astra is moving we decided to part away
