Cast recording or live tv to a device
Cast recording or live tv to a device
I would like to be able to select a channel or recording from an android app and 'cast' it to a chromecast or DLNA renderer.
Ideally the same app would allow searching the guide for programs to record and also management of the recordings.
Steve.

Hi Steve,
You should be able to cast programs from the VBox Live TV apps to UPnP DMR devices and apps

Neither android app is working for me today - both crashing when I open them, so I can't check that right now. Will do when they next want to work.

Do you know of anything that might have changed since the last time you ran the Android apps?
Also can use the VBox on your PC/Mac without any issues?

Re: Cast recording or live tv to a device
I can't think of anything that changed. I tried forcing the applications to stop and cleared all data. The native app got slightly further, briefly displaying the name of the vbox device, before crashing. I did send a couple of crash reports which I think you should be able to see via the google developers console.
The Windows 10 app worked okay, although I had to tell it to switch vbox (even though it hadn't changed IP address) before the video feed would display.

Do you have a different network router you can try?
It sounds like it a UPnP discovery issue
Maybe try to boot your network router?

Re: Cast recording or live tv to a device
Not convince it is an SSDP problem... the native app did appear to find the device, just crashed when trying to access it. I'll try power cycling my phone, to give it the best chance. Would you really expect the app to crash just because it can't find a device?

Hi Steve,
I wouldn't expect the app to crash on any device, however we have heard of such a behavior before this is why I have asked that

Still not working for me
I have submitted a few crash reports. Looking at the stack trace it is sending you, it complains about "Scheme 'https' not registered." I presume it is still working for somebody? I am on a Nexus 5 phone with Android 6.0.1 and all recent updates... perhaps something on the phone has updated and introduced an incompatibility?
