I have a "problem" with power consumption. My vbox needs 8 W all over the time. No clients on, no EPG download ... -> No PID in use, but the tuner sill locked.

I've tried with also with ntp and EPG: OTA and xmltv.
Is this normal ? Is seems little big high !

Re: power consumption & tuner locked
Hi @nepo
8W is still within the norm
As the VBox consumes very little power, we keep both tuners always locked to the last used frequency
This way when a client is requesting a channel, it's instantly streamed

Re: power consumption & tuner locked
hi
Thanks for reply !
I have tested the vbox for a few days. Streaming and recording absolutely no problems !!!
So I want to continue to use vbox.
. I have tested different (little) computers (SBC: Raspberry3; orangepi+2E...) with also 2 DVB-C USB tuners, 2,5 device ... and they consume less power.
Anyway, the support makes a practical suggestion:
It is possible ? I have tried with editing crontab: or
with no success
Please help
Bye nepo

I don't believe that is "very little power"admin@vbox wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 8:47 am8W is still within the norm

But I want to shutdown the vbox e.g. specific time automatically combined with timer switch outlet. You can shutdown the VBox software by using this URL http:// IP>/cgi-bin/ManageApp/ManageApp?OPTION=48&shutdown_action=Shutdown+System+
And you can use a smart power plug to turn the power off and on - this way the VBox will not consumer any power at all
Here are some example of smart power outlets - https://www.postscapes.com/smart-outlets/
It is possible ? I have tried with editing crontab:
Code: Select all
*/15 * * * * root /sbin/shutdown -h now
Code: Select all
*/15 * * * * root /cgi-bin/ManageApp/ManageApp?OPTION=48&shutdown_action=Shutdown+System+

Please help
Bye nepo

Re: power consumption & tuner locked
Hi,
This doesn't answer your question directly but I do the same thing from within the home automation software Domoticz that runs on a Raspberry Pi.You can set up a scene to turn off the VBox then after a delay of 60 seconds, power off the timer switch.
You do need to be able to send commands to the power sockets for this - I have an RFX433 Transceiver connected to the Pi.
Hope that helps.

Re: power consumption & tuner locked
We have a customer that has a smart power that is also capable or sending a timed URL which he is using to shutdown the VBox
Also you can use any online/PC/Mac to schedule the VBox shutdown prior to turning the power off

hi
Thank you for your help
But I don't want to buy/run a third machine to shutdown the vbox.
The vbox is a linux machine, it should be possible to shutdown with an internal script/command ?

Bye

Re: power consumption & tuner locked
If you are using router that is openwrt or entware repo capable, you can use it's crontab and wget to get this feature.
Re: power consumption & tuner locked
hi
@ Ant: Thank you for your help!
I have thought about to use my Router (Fritzbox 7362 SL 6.83) for this job, but
No chance to use my router without risk/unreasonable expense
Again
- We have the possibility to shutdown the vbox (more or less)
- We can edit cron jobs (indirect: backups or direct: e.g. choose ntp)
- OS linux with a lot of possibilities to run bash commands/scripts
Dear Support/Admins: Where is the problem ?
Bye

It's not my router, only rented. -> high-risk to damaged the router. I don't want to do this.If you are using router that is openwrt
no telnet/ssh for version 6.83entware repo capable
