SSL HTTPS option

Post by Linux_lad » Thu Jan 25, 2018 12:24 pm

Hi
I was wondering if their is a setting to disable the HTTPS option when viewing recordings (menu option 32) from the web interface, it is the only page on the web interface which displays this pop up that I can find.

It always seems to slow down the loading of the page and is unresponsive for a period of time. If their is no current option for this would it be possible to make a feature request to turn this off please.

(using Firefox 57 of latest Chrome browser on windows)

Many thanks Tim.

Hi @Linux_lad
the easiest way to avoid the popup is to access the VBox management via https
i.e https://192.168.0.11 (for example)

I see the logic in that except it doesn't work by default, and it defeats the object a little.

I have not tried but I assume you would need to change the default settings to get this to work, also this is local lan stuff the interface is slow enough as it is with out adding SSL negotiations and encryption on top.

but thanks for the reply.

You don't need to change anything just type https instead of http to access the web interface
you can do this directly only for the recording page, or the entire web admin interface
It should not slow down your system
- Anyway I have added your request to disable the request for SSL for that page to our future request list and the more users will ask for that feature the higher it will be prioritized

I hope that the quick https solution will also work for you

But how or where do we enable https on the VBox? There doesn't seem to be an option to turn it on in any of the menus and it appears to be set to http only by default.
Firefox says:
Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.x.x.
Chrome says:
This site can’t be reached
192.168.x.x refused to connect.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Thanks,

Alastair

Hi @tarmacalastair
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention
HTTPS/SSL is always enabled and available - if you are unable to access your VBox using HTTPS this may be a software issue and we are looking into it
