What hard drive to attach?
What hard drive to attach?
I have come to the conclusion that the best way to record TV is using the VBOX itself. Plex missed too many recordings. The main downside of this is that the recordings are sometimes inaccessible, see my other post (https://community.vboxcomm.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=535) but I guess I just have to accept that.
I currently have a USB thumb drive connected to store my recordings on but it isnt big enough, what do people suggest instead? What is everyone else using?
Thanks,
Simon

Re: What hard drive to attach?
Did you try to use NAS ?
Re: What hard drive to attach?
Yes I did try NAS but the recordings were not reliable enough, possibly to do with network issues. I thought it may be better to connect a hard drive so that I could avoid using the network.
Re: What hard drive to attach?
Using my 1tb usb hdd now.
Before - it was usb flash 32gb, but its write speed was bad for HD channels.
Waiting for new device and thinking about using it with big and fast sd/microsd card.

Re: What hard drive to attach?
Is your 1TB USB HDD powered using a power brick or does it get power from the USB lead?
Is it a spinning HDD or an SSD?

Re: What hard drive to attach?
You are asking right questions.)
There is 2.5 hdd device inside:
https://www.toshiba-storage.com/product ... vio-ready/
Its reformated into ext4 filesystem, that is supported by vbox.
Its get power from my vbox xti-3442, but i need warn you, that i hear something like double start of drive when vbox reboots or power on after ac outage.
So i think there is less power than it needs.
Also device have option of sleep, when its not in use - drive stops.
And from sleep mode it awakes without double start sound (sound of disk spinning etc).
And yes i was thinking aboud ssd, but 1tb version is a bit expensive for now.

Re: What hard drive to attach?
Thanks Ant. I have one of those Toshiba drives currently used for backup that I will try myself.
